Welcome to the international conference
Adaptation of Forests and Forest Management to Changing Climate with Emphasis on Forest Healt: A review of science, polices and practices
Umeå, Sweden August 25-28, 2008
About Umeå
Umeå is situated in Västerbotten, home to Europé´s last wilderness.
Umeå is one of Sweden´s largest University towns with 111.000 inhabitants.
It was founded in 1622 by king Gustav II Adolf. After it burnt down in 1888,
large numbers of birch trees were planted and since then Umeå
has been known as the "City of Birches".
We have local attractions and culture such as the Sami cultural
treasures and do not forget to taste our famous cheese,
Västerbottensost. We call it the Lapish Parmesan.
Umeå aims to become the European Capital of Culture in 2014.
A tough competition against several other cities now lies ahead.
The Umeå Folkets Hus is located in the centre of Umeå
within 150 meters walking distance to many of the hotels.
Just outside our entrance you will find everything the youthful city can offer with
pedestrian malls and places to shop, a vibrant pulse of the city and the turbulent river Umeälven.
